Any two YouTube tabs
Pick them on the setup page. The audio stays inside those tabs; Layatab only shapes it on the way to your speakers.
Beat sync that lands on the kick
The detector reads the whole mix, tuned towards the kick, and anchors the grid on the kick's transient, the way your ear hears the beat. SYNC locks the incoming grid to the master's.
Headphone cue
Pre-listen the next track on a second output, your headphones, while the room hears the master. Any USB or Bluetooth headset that shows up as a separate device works.
EQ, pitch, nudge, key lock
Three-band EQ per deck, pitch ±16 % with key lock, nudge to push or hold back, and a SHIFT slider that moves the grid in 1 ms steps.

Both beat grids plus the waveform, drawn on a common axis. Now is the top edge and time flows downwards like a waterfall, so you watch the combs line up instead of guessing.
Ads handled
When YouTube plays an ad on a deck the mixer tells you and ducks that deck. Skippable ads get skipped the moment the button appears.
Four steps. The mixer does the arithmetic, you do the music.
- Load the next track in the empty deck.Reset its pitch and wait a few seconds until the BPM display settles. On clean material that's about seven seconds.
- Press SYNC on that deck.Its grid locks to the master deck. The two combs in the middle line up; the kick drums land on top of each other.
- Bring it in with the EQ and the crossfader.Once it sits, turn SYNC off. The tempo stays where it is, the trim lives in the pitch.
- If anything flams, slide SHIFT.It moves the grid 1 ms at a time in either direction. For hard material (breakbeat, dubstep, hip hop) use TAP and HOLD.

Setting up, and when something is off.
Install
Install from the Chrome Web Store, then click the Layatab icon in the toolbar. That opens the setup page. Open two YouTube videos in two tabs, and assign them as Deck A and Deck B on the setup page. Chrome asks once for permission on youtube.com; that covers only the tabs you assign.
Headphone cue
On the setup page press Find my outputs. Chrome shows a one-time microphone prompt on the YouTube tab: that is the only way Chrome reveals the names of your audio outputs. Allow it; Layatab reads the list and releases the microphone at once. Pick your speakers as the master output and your headphones as the cue output. Then press CUE A or CUE B on the mixer to pre-listen that deck. The CAL button lines up the small delay between the two outputs.
The beat display looks wrong
- Wait for the BPM to settle before pressing SYNC; a number that is still moving is a guess.
- Half-time or double-time? +2 and ×2 fix the octave; TAP tells the detector what you hear (eight taps in a row).
- Grid sits but the kicks flam: the SHIFT slider under the pitch, by ear, 1 ms at a time.
- Difficult material with a vague kick: HOLD freezes the grid where it is. A new track drops the hold.
FULL and KICK: the two detectors
The button next to the BPM switches between two detector modes. FULL is the default and usually the better one: it analyses the whole spectrum, weighted towards the kick, and anchors the grid on the kick's transient. On most house, techno, disco and pop it locks in a few seconds and stays put.
Press it and it switches to KICK: only the low bands are analysed, and the tempo estimate leans towards the slower reading. Use it when FULL is being misled: a busy, rhythmic bassline that FULL counts as beats, broken beats where the snare pattern pulls the grid off, or slower material such as hip hop, trip hop and drum & bass, where FULL tends to read double time.
If the grid still drifts in either mode: TAP sets the tempo and the downbeat from your taps: it starts reading after three, averages up to eight in a row, and a two-second pause starts over. Then HOLD freezes the grid exactly where it is. HOLD only holds the grid, it does not follow the track, so switch it off before a tempo change and before loading a new track (a new track drops it anyway).
Something else
Turn on Show diagnostics in Settings on the setup page. A grey line under the decks shows what the sync is doing, and the copy button puts a short diagnostic snippet on your clipboard. If the developer asks for it, that is what to send.
Everything stays on your machine.

What it storesWith “Remember my settings” on (the default), Layatab keeps these on your computer, in Chrome's local extension storage: mixer positions (volumes, EQ, pitch, crossfader), the audio output devices you chose, the headphone-cue calibration and the colour scheme. Turn the option off and Layatab stores nothing; already stored settings are deleted.
What it sendsNothing. Layatab has no server, no analytics, no accounts, no crash reporting. It makes no network requests of its own. It never transmits what you play, what you mix or how you use it.
MicrophoneTo list your audio outputs for the headphone cue, Chrome requires a one-time microphone permission on the YouTube page. Layatab asks for it, reads the list of output devices and releases the microphone at once. It does not record, listen to or transmit audio from the microphone.
DiagnosticsAn optional diagnostics view (Settings → Show diagnostics, off by default) shows on screen what the beat sync is doing. It is kept in memory only, and leaves your computer only if you copy it to the clipboard and paste it somewhere yourself.
Third partiesLayatab runs on youtube.com pages you assign as decks. YouTube's own privacy policy applies to what YouTube does; Layatab does not change it and shares nothing with YouTube beyond what your browser already does when you play a video. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
ChildrenLayatab collects no data from anyone, of any age.
ChangesIf this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date.
